The 1972 self-published book by Hans Levi examines Berkeley and, more specifically, the preaching streets. Street Jesus documents what he calls a "Human Circus", the rise of street preachers and the religious intentions of their provocateurs. During the 1970s, as the Vietnam War was ending and soldiers were returning home to a different America, a lot of new religious cults were forming and street conflict and Berkely was rife with people were looking for understanding amidst a hippie post war movement. Classic counter culture photography at its best.
