The Italian designer and architect Carlo Mollino lived a double life; not only was he a celebrated professional in one craft, but he was also an undercover erotic photographer. He set up a secret studio in one of the buildings he designed, where, using a Polaroid camera, he took carefully posed erotic pictures of models and sex workers taken from the streets. These images, found in a shoebox in his Turin apartment after he died in 1973, depicted women in various states of undress, often in theatrical and surreal settings. This discovery, initially surprising given his other professional pursuits, revealed a consistent and experimental photographic practice throughout his career.
