Francesca Woodman began photography at the age of 13, with her images showing an emotional intensity from the start and a depth of obscurity barely seen in what others might call 'The Swining Sixties'. Often her work focused on a somewhat ghostly and evanescent presence of her own form. Delving into Woodman's world leaves you both bewildered and bewitched, that all the images she created were in a tragically short period before she took her own life at just 22. Her adolescent obsession with metamorphosis led her to create a lot of work, but only one book was ever published during Woodman’s lifetime, and most were distributed at her funeral. This is the first book to be published posthumously in 1998, and still the best and most comprehensive Woodman book there is.
