BOXin’ is the opening series of Giorgia Fiorio's decade-long project ‘MEN’, an anthropological study of closed male communities governed by institutionalised codes and traditions at the turn of the millennium. The project took her across continents photographing bullfighters, firefighters, regiments, and obviously, boxers (in Brooklyn) where she lived while finishing her photography studies. An incredible first major piece of work, showing the discipline, ritual, and physical toll of boxing, while exposing a kind of stripped-down masculinity- forged through repetition and pain.
