Self-published in a limited edition of 1,000 copies, Tahitian Eve is one of three foundational conceptual artist books produced by American photographer Marcia Resnick in 1975.

Subverting traditional notions of exoticism and the female form—and playing directly on Paul Gauguin’s iconic South Pacific mythologies—Resnick constructs a witty, tongue-in-cheek narrative using staged sequence photography. The artist herself acts as both subject and director, juxtaposing feminist identity politics with sharp conceptual humour, deadpan staging, and surreal sequencing.

A rare, highly collectable example of 1970s conceptual feminist photography and early self-published artist book culture.
