David Armstrong's beautiful 1997 book 'The Silver Cord' was the photographer's first solo monograph. The photos, that of young men from his life as well as his fellow artistic collaborators like Nan Goldin, Jack Pierson & Cookie Mueller, feel both real and dreamlike, mixing everyday scenes with a soft and emotional warmth. There’s a sense of longing and desire in every image; the standing still of time that photography manages to capture is always at the forefront of David's image-making. Using the camera as a historical and almost biblical like tool for capturing the present and creating history.
