A supportive antidot according to Thatchers Great Britain for the youth of the day, Manchester-based Morrissey, Marr-& Co. even something like mainstream success approached the end. But at the beginning, they were shabby, uncompromising rebels. This was the period when Paul Slattery took a series of band photos of great intimacy and power. Slattery was particularly close to The Smiths in that beginning, and his images - many of them first seen here - were the work of an intimate, informal, tricky, exciting, and reveal. Seen together, these photos are an exciting counting of views on the work of an influential band which, for some turbulent years, embarrassed the market in lyrical opacity, laced with biting spirit.
